Once the cold winter hits, you may think you’re safe from the creepy crawlers. In the summer, bees and mosquitoes can become a nuisance but in the winter, cockroaches and spiders may become your next guests. The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) have a few tips to ensure your home is free from pests this winter.
Seal Cracks
Be sure to seal any cracks that are on the outside of your home to prevents any rodents from entering your home. It’s important to check any areas where the pipes and/or utilities have entered the home. Did you know that a mouse can fit through a hole the size of a dime?
Eliminate Moisture Sites
Eradicating moisture sites such as pipes that are leaking or drains that are clogged can help prevent pests in your home. You should also pay close attention to kitchens and bathrooms since cockroaches are more likely to infest these areas.
Keep Spaces Organized
Lastly, it’s crucial to keep your space organized. Rodents and pests love to hide in clutter. Keeping storage areas organized and objects picked up off the floor can help. Be sure to store your firewood at least 20 feet away from your home as mice and ants enjoy making their nests in these piles.
